As part of our mission to advocate for children's rights, we support Children's Week. The purpose of Children's Week is to create a shared vision of the State of Florida's commitment to its children and families and to engage a long-term process to develop and implement strategies for moving the shared vision forward. For more information - www.childrensweek.org.

A hallmark event of Children's Week is the Hanging of the Hands at the Capitol in Tallahassee (cut-out hands strung together in lengths of 8, 10 or 12 feet each). The Hands Across the Bay event will be the culminating event for local Childrens Week activities, where we will gather these strings of hands and unite with other nonprofit organizations in displaying them and raising awareness here in Tampa Bay.

The first Annual Hands Across the Bay event was held at the Friendship Trail (the old Gandy Bridge). The second annual event was held at the Saturday Morning Market in downtown St. Petersburg.

We will be planning our 3rd Annual event starting in November 2009. If you are interested in getting involved, please contact Maria at maria@projectpatchwork.org or (727) 824-0863. This is an opportunity for you to support:

o Creating hands for the Hanging of the Hands in Tallahassee,
o Raising awareness on children's issues,
o Giving children and families a local venue to participate in Children's Week,
o Inspiring our community leaders to advocate for children's issues,

all while you are enjoying a fun, healthy activity with your friends, family and community.
